Girl Scouts
Shortly after the founding of the Boy Scouts of America, a new organization just for girls was created called the Girl Scouts of the United States of America. This organization was founded on similar principals to those of the Boy Scouts, but it was a program specifically for young ladies. The program was meant to help women to build healthy self esteem and to learn practical skills that would be needed for life. Young women would complete acts of service or learn new skills to get badges that could be added to their Girl Scout Uniforms.

Early on in the founding of the Girl Scouts, the uniform consisted of a dress, but soon this was soon changed to allow for more versatility. In 1919 for example, a Girl Scout uniform consisted of a coat dress that buttoned down and was worn with either a skirt of bloomers. The bloomers were worn only on outdoor outings and the skirt for more public events. Originally the uniforms were blue, but then they were changed to Khaki which proved to be more practical for the girls. Crowned hats were also part of the attire of a girl scout as well and of course the famous neckerchief.
As styles changed among young women in the United States, so did the Girl Scout uniforms that were worn. Because Girl scouts consisted of a number of different levels including Brownies, Junior Girl Scouts, Cadettes and Senior Girl Scouts. Today's Brownie Girls Scouts were uniforms that look much like an outfit that would be worn to the gym including a hooded blue sweatshirt that zips up and pull on track pants. Gone are the days of uniforms that resembled a park ranger as today's Girl Scouts uniforms are much less formal than in the past.
