Scrubs
Medical scrubs were once just that; attire worn by staff that would assist during surgery, including Doctors and Nurses. Today medical scrubs are still used for this purpose, but have become far more popular among other medical staff and with the general public as well. The name “scrubs” originally referred to the idea that these clothes would be put on prior to surgery when preparing which including washing up and changing into clothing specifically for this purpose.
Scrubs had and still have a very practical application in the medical profession. For Doctors and Nurses that assist in surgery, scrubs are simple pieces of clothing. They're easy to put on and take off and they don't cost a lot of money. This means that if they were stained with blood or another material, instead of trying to wash out the stain, they were often just thrown in the garbage. Another benefit to medical scrubs is that they don't have any fancy patterns or extra fabric that can too easily hide dirt.

Today scrubs are not just for the operating room.
